The Integrity of Burgers

Fine I’m mad about this. I enjoy a food competition festival, it’s a great place to try a bunch of different interesting flavors with the same basic concepts. BUT what pisses me off every time, is that these burger people keep adding too many toppings to the burger to be interesting. There are two basic concepts to win a food competition. Either do what the original intent of the food in a very precise and extraordinary way, OR create a new flavor palate with the same basic core. Most choose option 2, it’s simply hard to win competition year after year creating the same burger and the fast foodification of society has made it a boring taste. But with option 2, you have to make it an enjoyable experience, and too often these restaurant owners create good concepts, but their execution is bad. They add too many things to a well meaning concept. Look at these burgers:

Imagine trying to eat any of these!! This post is actually inspired by La Jefa which looks like one of the easiest, but it was fucking impossible! It tasted good when I had all of it in a bite, but those bites were rare. My solution is to stop adding these hard to eat condiments on these burgers, the experience freaking matters, nobody is trying to be ugly eating your burger, you’re not even worried about the flavor at this point.

This is why my burger, a double cheese burger with the cheese in the middle and a ginger pineapple hot sauce aioli with toasted buns, is the best burger, because it’s simple to eat, with a unique flavor that is enjoyable throughout the whole time.

I will shout out Snarf Burger, who has the same philosophy as me, and it’s why I go to them for my burgers in Denver.
